Plot: My short film will be set around the abduction and ransom of my protagonist. This will limit the number of characters in my short film allowing me to focus on developing one character. Most of film  will set place with my character tied to a chair interacting with his captors and struggling to find a way to escape his situation. The ending will consist of the fate of my character being a mystery with the ransom not being paid. The final shot will be a parcel arriving to the house of the protagonist in which it is implied it contains remains of the protagonist. Filming: Makes filming easier Matches style in Curfew Brings focus on character and less on surroundings More professional Props/Related Photos: Burlap sack for head mask Rope for bindings Brief Plot Points/Shot List: Walking towards car and get grabbed, shot from Captors POV then switches and plus out of POV when being

Short Film Analysis

Curfew 20mins In opening sequence for Curfew, the low key lighting used darkens and blacks out most of the background. This stylistic approach towards setting would be useful in my short film as it would make filming a lot simpler through the choosing of the setting being a black darkened out back drop made to look like an endless void like in the film. In this short sequence the only things that are lit in shot are props the director wants the audience to pay attention to such as the bright red phone or the towel next to the bathtub. This technique of using low key lighting to limit what is seen in my shots could be an effective way of telling an interesting story while not having to pay attention much towards location or any props that may be in the shot that might ruin immersion. About a girl 10mins Throughout the text the mise en scene is used to symbolise and replicate real life. For example the in the shots where her and her father are talking, the outfits of both the c

Wong Kar-Wai Research

Wong Kar-Wai Research Key elements in Wong Kar-Wai's work consists of working on a minimal script in which key plot elements are improvised. This allows Wong Kar-Wai to experiment whilst creating his scenes. Wong Kar-Wai Tends to use the same production team that can pickup on his ideas and he works well with. Does not agree with the conventional film making methods common in Hong Kong. Has a large emphasis on emotion and conveys emotion strongly. visually unique and stylistic.

Evaluation

EVALUATION During this task, we chose to create a horror movie where a character falls asleep and ends up in the middle of nowhere he is then hunted down by a cloaked being. This idea was successfully displayed by the use of 2 very distinct locations, one (the really world) is set in a tunnel in an urban environment, the second was a wooded area with rubble and abandoned buildings. We decided to have the beginning and end to be shot at the same place therefore creating a circular narrative and have a twist at the end (the hooded character being in the real world) to get the viewer thinking about the ending thus ending the film on a cliff hanger. Overall our original idea translated well to screen with scenes in the storyboard being used almost exactly in the movie. However in post production we decided to add effects that we did not plan for in pre-production such as filters for curtain scenes like the dream world having a blue filter to add to the depressing atmosphere the effect
